I’m letting you in on a bit of a secret: The Highland Range is a rarely visited hidden gem in Southern Nevada. It’s just south of the Las Vegas Valley adjacent U.S. Highway 95 towards Searchlight to the east, the Southern McCullough Range to the west, and Wee Thump Joshua Tree to the south.
On a map and as a matter of fame, no one thinks of this place as something spectacular, but Dutchman Pass has some nice views.
Avi Kwa Ame is a favorite for night sky photography for me. That’s the name it is called by the original inhabitants of this land, the Mojave people.
I was dismayed to learn today that the famous and often photographed Windstone Arch (or Windstone Cave) has been destroyed (see photo below).
